“What if a civilization was built upon the carcass of Jörmungandr, the world serpent of Norse mythology?”

A monstrous creature that lived within the depths of the ocean, capable of devouring the world. The Ragnarok prophecy predicted that the Gods of mythology would come together for a life-changing battle where old Gods die and new Gods born anew. Jörmungandr was to wake during the Ragnarok event and defeat Thor, at the same time receiving a fatal blow.

The ancient Norse culture believed in endless cycle of death and birth within itself.

What if the cycle of death and rebirth of Gods was broken with the death of Jörmungandr and Thor? How would civilisation thrive?
In Norse mythology, Jörmungandr is known as a world serpent, an offspring of Loki and the giantess Angrboða.

This was the brief that I gave to myself when I am illustrating this piece, using this opportunity to experiment with brush strokes as well as playing with the scale of the scene.
